Leisure in the Sun

Although many residents and visitors to Mazarrón are drawn to the coast throughout the year to enjoy the sun, the sand and the sea, we’re proud to introduce you to a host of activities to help occupy the body and the mind – well beyond the beach!

To whet your appetite, here’s a flavour of how you can indulge yourself in and around Mazarrón.

Tee off!

Ever played a round of golf in the desert? Then try your hand at the Desert Springs course, inspired by the desert courses in Arizona. Don’t worry – the greens and fairways are emerald green!

This part of Spain really is a golfer’s paradise and the quality of the courses – and the choice of courses is quite exceptional.  Within the next two years there will be no less than 35 golf courses within one hour’s drive from San Javier airport!

In the meantime, we’ll be happy to provide more details and commentary about the courses and resorts  - all within one hour’s drive from our office - currently proving the most popular with our visitors:

  • Desert Springs
  • Hacienda del Alamo
  • Valle del Este
  • Golf Altorreal
  • La Finca
  • Real Campoamor
  • Las Ramblas Golf club
  • Club de Golf Villamartin
  • Camposol

Saddle up!

Here’s a real opportunity to get off the beaten track.  Even if you’ve never tried horse riding before, this is an ideal place to start. For novices there is a beginner’s course.

For the more experienced, there’s a three-day riding trail that will take you into parts of Spain that other visitors would rarely get the chance to see. It’s almost like a holiday within a holiday!

Cast off!
Your chance to get to grips with ‘what lies beneath’.  The Mediterranean is rich in sea life – and there’s no shortage along the Costa Cálida. Sea bream, amberjacks, gurnard and tuna – to name but a few.

If you prefer to keep your feet on dry land you can also enjoy a day’s fishing from the shore, on a river or at one of the many reservoirs in the area. All fishing trips are suitable for novices and the more experienced angler.

Please note that a fishing licence will be required, but this can be arranged for you.

Spot the dolphin!
For a truly memorable experience, nothing comes close to a Dolphin and Whale Watching excursion. A typical trip lasts from 9.00am to 5.00pm and is suitable for all ages.

Seeing whales and dolphins at play in their natural habitat is a fascinating way to spend a day. Lunch and drinks are included within the cost of the trip.

Ride the wave!
The Bay of Mazarrón is the ideal location to take to the water to indulge all kinds of water sports. Simply stretch out on the sun deck on a cruise or go for an adrenalin rush in a ‘mad blast’ on a speedboat and blow all the cobwebs away!

Water skiing and wakeboarding are also available. But if this is a bit too hectic for you, then you can chill out on a pleasure cruise and slide into the Mediterranean for a spot of snorkelling.

Prepare to dive!
Mazarrón is fast becoming a popular centre for diving holidays. The relatively warm water, clear sea and abundance of marine life make for ideal conditions.

The diving centre, at La Azohia near Mazarrón port, is fully equipped for all skill levels and caters for diving parties from one to more than fifty. Diving equipment is provided and diving packages range from open water diving to a beginner’s course and open water diver course.

In the port itself and overlooking the fantastic new marina, check out Cota Cero for some of the best diving advice and diving opportunities in town.
